Pathology Visions 2005 - our first user conference

Hey, guess what?  We're having our first user conferences!

Pathology Visions 2005, Aperio's inaugural ScanScope® user conference, comprises two meetings this year.  The North America meeting, October 23-25 will be in San Diego.  The Europe meeting, November 8-9, will be in Zurich.  Both meetings will feature the latest information about current and new products, networking with industry peers, access to Aperio Team members, interactive technical sessions, Aperio's product vision, the solutions gallery (a hands-on demonstration area), and much more.

Aperio adds scanner patent to growing portfolio

Aperio has been awarded another patent on line scanning in virtual microscopy; U.S. Patent No. 6,917,696, entitled "Fully Automatic Rapid Microscope Slide Scanner."  Quoting from the press release:

"Aperio pioneered the use of line scanning in virtual microscopy, setting new standards for scanning performance and image quality.  Our technology leadership has contributed significantly to the development of the soon-to-be $1B digital pathology market," said Dirk Soenksen, Aperio's chief executive officer.  "This patent strengthens Aperio's already formidable patent position in virtual microscopy, a position that comprises some 20 issued, licensed or pending patents covering digital slide capture, compression, viewing, management and entire-slide analysis.  Our patent portfolio also includes licenses to the rich virtual microscopy patents of Bacus Laboratories, a suite of patents we believe are essential for anyone wishing to do business in the field of virtual microscopy."

Aperio settles with Bacus Labs

This is really important; Aperio and Bacus Labs have settled their mutual patent litigation.  Please read our press release about the settlement for details.

We're very excited to put this behind us; with Bacus' extensive patent portfolio successfully licensed we have "freedom of action" to innovate on behalf of our customers.  There should be minimal impact on any existing customers (except perhaps peace of mind :); if you have any questions about the settlement please let us know.

I'm back!

Really really, I'm back!  After an inexcusable absence of six months, I promise I won't do that again :)
