I thought this was pretty cool: Kaiser Permanente offers up medical records on a USB drive:
The read-only drive, designed for use while a person is traveling or during a health emergency, is a sort of stopgap effort as the U.S. works to build a national electronic health records system that can provide easy access to patient health information anywhere.
I'm a big fan of online health records as you know, but somehow a thumb drive feels like it would be more easily accepted than an online record on some website. It will be interesting to see how well this works compared to Mayo's implementation of Microsoft Health Vault.
And of course I have to add... these records are not complete without pathology information, and hence digital pathology will be essential, whether physical media are used or an online website.
